The Becoming Archives is an ongoing collection of original textured artworks and stories documenting the beauty, complexity and transformation of becoming. Each piece begins with a photograph and a story. A pregnancy. A birth. A season of motherhood. A moment that changed everything.

Together, these stories form The Becoming Archives — a growing collection preserving the moments that shape us and the women we become because of them.

My vision is for The Becoming Archive to grow into a collection of hundreds of stories and artworks from women around the world. I hope to transform these works into a beautifully curated book and exhibition, preserving not only the artwork itself but the stories behind it.

Because every woman has a story of becoming.

And those stories deserve to be remembered.

I’m Alex Rose. Becoming an artist was inspired by becoming a mum. Suddenly nothing mattered yet everything mattered all at once. No ties to who I was any more, just who I was becoming. A mum. A woman ready to bring a child into the world and love them whole heartedly. The unconditional love began the day I found out I was pregnant. My body stretched and changed. Ached, bleed, itched. My heart stretched with it. Nothing compared to this experience I was going through. I felt a serene calm , something so unexpected.  Carrying my child felt like a quiet comfort each time I lay down to bed. Not a physical comfort- (it was quite the opposite) but a comfort bought to my soul. This is my story of becoming. The first story of The Becoming Archives …
